Lennie Lawrence Makes Move To The Reebok

It looks like the backroom staff hierarchy has now started to take shape. Lennie Lawrence has now left Selhurst Park and joined newly appointed Bolton boss, Dougie Freedman, at the Reebok Stadium.

Lennie Lawrence has been Freedman’s number 2 at Palace for approximately 10 months, and Freedman is happy he’s got his man, who has helped him shape the current Palace side and reach the top of the current Championship table.

Freedman Pursues Lawrence & Fleming Reunion

What a week we have had. Dougie Freedman was appointed last week by Bolton, and although we knew exactly what was eventually going to happen, Crystal Palace leaked the announcement that Dougie was heading up north to join the Trotters.

Jimmy Phillips managed his last first team game at the weekend, which saw Jimmy’s 11 picking up their first loss under the short lived Phillips reign. Dougie Freedman was then officially unveiled as the new Bolton boss by the club, with fans looking forward to a new exciting era under the new gaffer.

I’m excited and can’t wait to get started. These are exciting times for myself and hopefully for everyone involved with the football club.

I first learned of interest from Bolton on the weekend when I was in charge of Crystal Palace for what is always an interesting game against Millwall.

I had been informed of the interest from Bolton and I had that you feeling you used to get as a young kid. I was really excited.”
      Dougie Freedman

A question that has been asked many a time over the last week or so is; what will happen to the backroom staff once Dougie Freedman takes over at the club? Well, it seems that our new manager has asked Lennie Lawrence and Curtis Fleming to join him at the Reebok.

Palace’s Luck With Managers – No Change There Then

Yesterday saw Dougie Freedman leave Crystal Palace to join our own Bolton Wanderers FC. Although the club haven’t yet made the announcement official and speculation suggests that it is not yet a done deal, it does seem Phil Gartside finally got his man, and we must admit although we’re gutted for Jimmy & Co, we are impressed with this new coup for the club.

Bolton Wanderers are expected to be making an announcement at some point today, confirming Freedman’s appointment, hopefully we will also find out whether the former Palace boss will be bringing his backroom staff with him or not.

However, our gain is someone’s loss, or in this case it is the loss for Crystal Palace FC. As these things go, managers have ambitions – to manage bigger and better clubs. We’re not getting into the argument that Bolton’s better than Crystal Palace – of course we’re going to say that – we love BWFC; but what we’re trying to say is, managers have their own targets on where they would like to be in lets say 5 years down the line. We all have targets – don’t we?

So, Dougie has joined the Whites and things are already looking better for us. The dark cloud over Bolton is finally drifting away onto some other unfortunate town/village/city – but the cloud will finally have disappeared once Stuart Holden gets back into Bolton colours on the pitch.

If A New Manager Comes, What Happens To Our Backroom Staff?

A debate that was sparked by our fellow blog friends, Lion Of Vienna Suite, and one that has been discussed widely by fans on the t’internet and by those that aren’t exactly internet-savvy.

The general consensus agrees that Jimmy Phillips & Co should be given a chance at kick starting Bolton’s season, and eventual promotion push. However, you have to look beyond that too if things don’t pan out in the short term as we all expect.

Dougie Freedman is all over the news this morning, and with some seriously strong links and reports suggesting that Palace have given Bolton permission to talk to the Eagle’s boss, reality suggests he may very well soon become the next Whites boss. It has also been reported by Sky Sports News that Crystal Palace has brushed aside Bolton’s approach for the Palace manager.

Owen Coyle brought in his own backroom staff when he took over at the Reebok; slowly phasing out the need to have long serving employees such as Fred Barber to help maintain the high level of training that was being conducted at the club.

[Poll] Freedman Or Phillips? Who Would You Prefer?

Strong reports suggest Palace have allowed Bolton to hold talks with Dougie Freedman, with a view to take over the Reebok hotseat.

We thought, why not take this opportunity to run a short poll to get your thoughts on the current matter. There are 4 options in the poll, with the last option added in for Palace fans only. If you select the third option in the poll – you’d prefer someone else to take over, please don’t forget to state whom you’d like in the comments box below.

The poll has now closed. We will publish the results shortly.

                      Palace’s Freedman Approach Made Official

So, it’s finally revealed that Bolton Wanderers has made an official approach for Dougie Freedman, who is currently with Crystal Palace FC.

Bolton have apparently been granted permission by Palace to speak to Freedman to discuss the current vacant position left behind by Owen Coyle. Freedman is rumoured to prefer a stay with Palace, due to having strong ties with the club after making over 300 appearances for them as a player. However, reports suggest Bolton are looking to entice Freedman with a paycheck worth up to £500,000 per season, lasting for 3 years – this in itself is a mouthwatering offer for Freedman.

The Palace board will have to show some love to Freedman if they are looking to keep their highly rated manager, and although some Palace fans aren’t exactly seeing eye to eye with their boss – he has guided Palace to 6 wins out of their last 8 games – something that Bolton fans would be more than grateful for.
