What Is Going on With The Manager Conundrum?

First of all, I’d like to say thanks to everyone who tuned in to Monday Night Sport with our favourite commentator Jack Dearden. For those who couldn’t tune in, the topic of the show was what is on all Bolton Wanderers fans thoughts, who will be the next Bolton manager? There is another opportunity to listen again via the following link if you wish:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00z701k

As previously mentioned, the show was hosted by Jack Dearden, and there were three studio guests; Des Bradley from the Bolton Wanderers Supporters’ Association, Steven Marshall an extremely articulate and intelligent Bolton fan, and myself having the pleasure to represent our very own Voice Of Bolton.

Throughout the hour we all got a chance to discuss who we felt would be ideal or not so ideal candidates for the job, discussing almost every name associated in the media and some others aside. Former player Simon Charlton and former Bolton manager Colin Todd joined in the discussion by phoning into the studio to voice their opinions, and several audience members contributed to the discussion.

Popular candidates on the show seemed to be Karl Robinson of MK Dons, Sam Allardyce (although in our heart of hearts we know this is not happening), Phil Brown, Peter Reid, Fernando Hierro, Bruce Rioch, Colin Todd, Mick McCarthy, and to a certain extent and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, even though it was revealed earlier in the day that the latter had ruled himself out of the post.

Fabrice Muamba - I'm Still Standing Book GiveawayOf the potential managers names it seems that Billy Davies was an unpopular choice, and that Roy Keane, Kevin Keegan and Steve Kean weren’t firm favourites either, but that was just us, four fans (including Jack) discussing the future of Bolton in a studio, what do we know?

How do you feel about who the new manager should be, and honestly does anyone really have any idea who it could be?

It’s easy to have the feeling of being completely in the dark on the situation, Jack Dearden did mention that they asked BWFC for representation on the show, but unfortunately this did not come to fruition; and at the time of writing the article I can’t see a single comment anywhere, officially, from Bolton Wanderers regarding the manager situation. Cards are seemingly being kept so close to their chest that nothing is certain.

It is understood that Jimmy Phillips with Sammy Lee and Julian Darby will take charge of the game at Bristol City, but Colin Todd thinks a new manager will be in place before the game.

Endless names from the senior managerial merry go round, to the new possibly high risk, possibly big potential younger characters which are being brainstormed seem to be linked with the club, but at this time any name mentioned is pure speculation as there is no official confirmation on who may be on BWFC’s managerial shopping list. The thing is, I kind of hope I’ve missed a comment from someone here, so please feel free to call my mistake if you can find one from anywhere.

Is anyone else becoming confused and looking to hear answers and getting the matter resolved sooner rather than later, or is it best to stick with Jimmy Phillips/Sammy Lee/Julian Darby until the right candidate becomes available?

Thanks to Voice of Bolton for the opportunity to air my views on BBC Radio Manchester, and we are hoping to be publishing the interview with Super John Mcginlay by the end of the week fingers crossed.

And so, the search for a new manager continues.

I think it is best to go into the Bristol City game with the above mentioned trio in charge.  They have trained with the first team squad since Coyle’s departure and will have a game plan in place.  If a new face is brought in so close to the match then this will be ripped up and a rushed game plan will be instilled and the players will more likely be confused by the whole drama.  Get the next couple of games out of the way then get a new manager on board with the longest amount of time possible in between games to give their new influence more time to gel.
