Firstly, this post is titled “Joseph Barton anyone?” since that’s what the midfielder said he wants to be called.

Talks between QPR and Marseille about a free transfer have apparently died down, and would you think me crazy if I were to propose Joseph Barton as a solution for the gaping hole in the centre of our midfield?

We’ve been linked with Reo-Coker coming back but to be honest I really don’t think that that will ever happen. He’s a decent centre midfielder. He wins the ball but when he gets it he has the tendancy to randomnly pass it sideways without looking, which never worked. He does have a good reputation as a vocal leader and he’s captained every club he’s played for, so when SKD eventually hangs up his boots we’d have him to turn to. He was called up to play for England in the 2006 World Cup when he was only a U21′s, but withdrew due to back pains. He probably won’t get then nicest reception for the fans should he come back. Zat Knight has apparently been urging Owen Coyle to offer him a contract so we’ll see.

Do we want Reo-Coker? Some fans probably won’t, but some wouldn’t mind. Will he come? Probably not.

We’re also very close to doing a deal for Jay Spearing from Liverpool. I’m pretty sure it would be around the region of £3m, however, from what I’ve seen of him he’s a bit like a young Keith Andrews – gets stuck in, isn’t afraid to go in hard and has decent technique. He suffered a bad injury a few years ago (from a Reo-Coker challenge), however it’s been shaken it off and would be fit to be drafted into the squad when/if we sign him.

Do we want him? Most fans would, me personally – I’m not sure (50/50). Will he come? Highly likely.

Now those last two could happen quite easily but this last one as the post is titled it’s none other than Joey Barton, wait no, I mean Joseph Barton. He is extremely controversial but he puts his whole heart into everything he does. He has the ability to be a great player if he just sorts out his temper. QPR, despite their wealth, want to offload him and get him off the wage list, mainly because of his incident with Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero. His proposed move to Marseille I believe broke down and I don’t know if he has much of a future with the R’s following his ban and their recent signings. I know this sounds ridiculous but he really could be a decent signing for us.

Do we want him? I personally do. Will he come? There’s a very very slight possibility. Will Coyle look to him – not sure at all. Overall, we’ll probably just get Spearing and forget about Reo-Coker.

Do you agree about the likelihood of these moves? I know the mention of Barton to Bolton is a controversial thought and despite the number of people that hate his guts due to his on and off the pitch incidents, I just thought I’d throw that one in there to spark some thought.
