Giovani Dos Santos

Rather than report what’s going on about this transfer – although we have to admit we haven’t got a clue and that we’ve taken our eyes off this one, we were wondering whether anyone knew what was happening with the ‘bid’?

We could’ve tweeted this out and received a ton of replies, but we thought we’d like to see if you’d like to share your thoughts, or facts about the transfer Bolton are trying to push through on the site.

So – anyone? Do you know what’s going on with the Dos Santos transfer? Is it a Deal Or No Deal? Are Tottenham playing silly buggers? Is Dos Santos playing hard to get, or is he holding out for a move to – where was it again, Villareal?

Leave us your feedback below! Don’t forget you can use your Facebook or Twitter account to add your comments below (and some other fancy schmancy logins too!).

    Could have been a hell of a player… likes the drink

    Hows the nightlife in Bolton? if there is one you dont want the boy!

  • balders77

    talented but not sure he’s the sort of player you want in a relegation fight

  • Ant

    The latest is we’re close to agreeing a fee with Spurs and we’re waiting for them to come back to us with a yes or no. I don’t think the player himself has given an indication whether he would make the move. Supposedly he would prefer a move to Spain but no club is willing to pay the money, so at the moment it’s either Bolton or stay at Spurs.

    He still could be a hell of a player if he applies himself, he is only 22 so plenty of time to develop. I would like to see him at Bolton but Coyle needs to make sure that the player will apply himself. Saying that, I don’t think he’ll want to come to Bolton given our situation at present. I would imagine he’ll wait it out at Spurs til the summer and then move on.

    @Super_spurs – nightlife here’s pretty dire, unless you like a lot of bar fights. Then again, nothing stopping him from going down’t road to Manchester.

    @Balders77 – you’re probably right there, but would be nice to have him on the books if we survive this season. Wish Fredi Bobic would come out of retirement. We need him right now! Lol

    Cheers for the update Ant.

    He has a point to prove so maybe he will, but then again the rumours about this ismael guy are getting stronger. Hopefully we’ll get our man at the right price.

    Right now it seems coyley is trying to buy himself out of the relegation battle with the amount being splashed on fees.

  • Ant

    I would imagine Bangoura will be a loan. With him being at the African Nations, i don’t think we’ll be able to get the permit (if needed), medical and all paperwork done in time, but there are ways. Think the club are looking in to that. There’s also a decision to make on Le Toux, he’s back in Philly now so i would imagine we need to discuss a fee with his club if Coyley wants him. I would imagine somthing around the 1-1.5m mark would get him.

    I just hope whatever Coyle’s doing works, we need to have the utmost faith in him now. He needs to get the right players at the right price, or we could be in a very bad situation in the summer.

    Another interesting point is that nobody in the media seems to have cottoned on to the fact that Coyle himself is out of contract in the summer, so we really could start life in the championship with literally a whole new team, manager and back room staff.

  • Super_spurs

    The boy unfortunately is damaged goods.. how many top top young players to Barca sell? not including the under 18′s that cant sign pro contracts and leave for peanuts (Pique, Fibreglass etc) none… Barca wouldn’t have sold him without a good reason, inside story is “dodgy ankles” truth is he has a drink problem and doesn’t give it any effort at training as he’s still hungover from night before.

    Yes he “Could” be a good player as he’s still only 22… however he is not the type of player that will get stuck into a relegation dog fight… more likely to go missing when needed… shame as he is a great talent, Mexico form only has to see that

  • craig

    Think Spurs want >£5m for him, also he prefers a move to either Villareal or Sevilla, having turned down a big money (c.£10m) move to Udinese to force a move to Spain in the summer that was ultimately not forthcoming. One thing for sure is that he is the only player we’re actively looking to offload, especially now that we’re out of the Europa League where he was being played. 2 possible options would be a permanent deal for a lower amount (e.g. £4m) with further clauses based on Bolton’s survival and his performance, or a loan deal (perhaps with a fee) until the end of the season with a commitment on Bolton’s part to buy of they stay up – much like the deal last January for Robbie Keane’s move to West Ham (was a £1m loan fee plus £5m in the summer) although sadly (ahem) they got relegated.

  • Ant

    @super_spurs unless Coyley can work his magic on him, he’s got the gift of the gab…

  • Ant

    @craig, either deal is possible, all that depends on one man, Levy, and by all accounts he’s a pain in the arse to deal with. He’s more interested in making money than building a better Spurs side that can push them on, hence them extending Pav’s deal, but anyway that’s another story…

  • Super_spurs

    @ant
    Maybe, but not many better man managers than Redknapp to put his arm around a player and get the best out of them… dont get me wrong i would love to see Gio stay at Spurs and come good, failing that go to a Bolton and turn his career around and be awesome, just cant see it happening.. you guys would be better off buying Nico off us if Redknapp would sell

  • Ant

    I would like Kranjcar he’s a really good player but i’ve heard he’s on big wages and we’re trying to reduce our wage bill at the moment. Plus like you say, i don’t think Redknapp (Levy) would wanna sell unless it’s a brilliant offer and there’s little point selling your better squad players in Jan.

  • Super_spurs

    @ant
    also… Levy is a business man, why would we sell Bolton Gio for say £3-£4 million when we paid £4.7? we extended Pav’s contract because we had the option too and because he would have been out of contract in July, now he has 18 months to run so the re-sell value is higher.. simple business to be fair…
    More intrested in making money then building a better Spurs side? where have you been the last 5 years? we have heavily invested and now through buying good young players (Bale, Lennon, Walker, Dawson, Huddlestone etc..) and bring in already good players like Modric, VDV etc we are now 3rd in the league and pushing for top 4, we wont win league until we get our new ground and bring in more revenue to finance the big wages.. He plays hard ball because he runs the club in the correct way and doesn’t sell at a loss most of the time.. this is why unlike our french neighbours we are not in debt and are not selling our best players to pay off a stadium we couldnt afford… no spurs fan has come on here and had a pop at Bolton so maybe dont have a pop at Spurs..

  • Ant

    Pav has never been first choice for Redknapp so why not sell him and get a top class striker and push on? Supposedly Levy wants to make a profit on the 13.8m he paid for Pav, but the guy’s 30 and isn’t top class, so he’ll never ever get that kind of money, let alone more. Similar with Gio, the guy hasn’t done anything at Spurs and barely ever plays, so he can’t justify making a profit on him. Why not sell them for realistic sums, say 8m for Pav, 4m for Gio, get their wages off along with a few others and invest in a couple of young top class players that will really push you on?

    I want to see Spurs pushing scum and city. In fact it’d be great if Spurs finished above scum but i just don’t think you will while Levy is concentrating on making money rather than pushing on. It’s not a pop, i’m just an outsider looking in, that’s all mate….

  • Super_spurs

    @ant
    No he hasn’t, because the boy refuses to learn English.. pretty hard to build up a relationship with the manager and other players if you cant speak to them, i dont think Levy wants a profit on Pav, he just doesn’t want to lose him for nothing so extending the contract gives us the option to sell him on either now or in summer.. thing is same with Gio, why sell them for a loss now when we couldn’t get a better squad player in for that money? no point in us selling for the sake of it, yes sell them if it fress up one of the 25 registered squad player spaces and we bring in a new forward but dont forget we also have to find buyers for the players… no saying Gio will want to sign for Bolton, think the boy wants to go back to Spain and if the only team interested are Villareal and they offer peanuts then he wont go, same as Pav only teams interested are a Russian team that offered £5mill or Sunderland on loan.

    Levy is a bit greedy but greed is good mate, saves us going the way of your Leeds or Pompey’s he does have the clubs best interests at heart to be fair to him

  • Ant

    Greed isn’t good when it gets in the way of building a squad that can challenge for titles though, that’s my point. From comments Redknapp’s made, such as a couple of weeks ago when he was talking about paying bigger salaries, he agrees with me. I think if Spurs finish 3rd, which they could well do, the time would be right to splash out a bit on a couple of top class players. I just can’t see them pushing further than that without investing more.

  • firsttouchds

    @ant I’m a spurs fan and I think alot of spurs fans would agree in saying cut our losses on crazy pav and gio by selling cheap and gamble signing a 100,000 a week player but with new fair play rules coming into play it’s a hard balance ….. I think Levy has done a great job at spurs he learns from mistakes he and other owners. but their is a sinister side to him!!

  • Ant

    Anyway come 14th April, Bolton 2 Spurs 1.

    I thank you.

  • BWFC-TIL-I-DIE

    He’ll be a Villareal player by weekend

  • BWFC-TIL-I-DIE

    He will be a Villareal player by weekend

  • Iain

    Of all the clubs I might have guessed Giovani would have gone to Bolton would be near the bottom of the list. I can’t see him as a Bolton type of player at all.
